Middletown...William Robert Sturgeon, 82, former Middletown resdient, passed away September 8, 2011 at St. Johns Medical Center in Anderson.He was born in Anderson, February 20, 1929, the son of James and Iva Hicks Sturgeon.He attended Anderson High School and worled for 46 years at Borg Warner in Muncie, retiring in 1991 as a millright.He was a US Marine corps veteran serning during the Korean conflict.He was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron three times and a 50 year member of Middletown Lodge F & AM. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Shrine, American Legion, UAW 287 and the Sixth Strteet Christian Church in Middletown.He was preceded in death by his first wife: Dorothy (Sellers), 1 brother: James and 1 sister: Barbara Chaney.Surviving is his wife of five years: Cora J. (Abbott), 2 sons: Mark (Dixie) and Evan (Sherrie) of Middletown, 1 daughter: Malia Farler (Kenneth) of Anderson, 1 stepson: Roger Jones (Sonja) of Lenoir City, TN and 1 step daughter: Shirley Stamper (Edwin) of Monticello, KY, 8 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren, 1 brother: Edward (Mary) Sturgeon of Anderson and 1 sister: Sue Sheffer (Robert) of Caldonia, NY, sister in laws: Phyllis Sturgeon of Punta Gorda, FL and Della Sheets of Middletown.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, Middletown with Rev. Maynard Powell and Marty Ballard officiating.Burial will follow in Miller Cemtery, Middletown.Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 PM with OES services at 7:30 pm and Masnoic services at 8:00 PM.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.Online Guestbook at:
