Muncie...Wayne A. Shirey, 81, attorney and longtime resident of Daleville and Muncie, passed away Thursday morning at Westminster Village.He was born in Daleville, January 1, 1930, the son of Raymond and Pharaba Polhemus Shirey.He was a 1948 graduate of Daleville High School and Indiana University with a degree in Political Science.He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternity and received his JD degree in 1955.He joined the law firm of Myers and Rector , which later became known as Slagle and Shirey and Shirey and Edwards.He also established a part time law office in Daleville.He retired from practice in 1995 but continued as Probate Commissioner of Delaware Circut Court and was Of Counsel with Cannon and Bruns, Atorneys at Law.Mr. Shirey wrote articles for West Publishing Company, was a member of the Delaware County Election Board, secretary/treasurer and life member of the Muncie Board of Realtors, was attorney for the Delaware Metropolitan Planning Commission and the Delaware County Council; was attorney for Daleville Community Schools, Chariman of the Probate Trust and Real Property Section of the Indiana State Bar Association and was a member of it's Board of Managers.He was appointed by Gov. Otis Bown, MD, to the Indiana Probate Study Commission which recommended and drafted changes to the Indiana Probate Code.He was elected as a Fellow of the American College Trust and Estate Counsel and has served for many years as Probate Commissioner for Delaware Circut Court. He had also been chairman of the Muncie Bar Associaition memorial resolution committee.He was a life long member of the Daleville United Methodist Church, serving as Lay member to Annual Conference for 25 years, a charter member and past president of the Delaware Kiwanis Club, a member of the Dalevile Lodge F & AM #730, the Continental Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; Past President of Eastern Indiana Associaiton of Phi Beta Kappa and Charter member of the Big Train Engineers of Indianapolis.He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother: Warren and his wife Phyllis A. (Farrow).Survivors include Nieces: Jean (Bob) Anderson of Arlington, VA and Lynn Farrow (Phil Bracher) of Arlington, VA, Brother-in-law: Richard (Daisy) Farrow of Arlington, VA and special friends: Elaine Dare of Anderson, Janet and Ray Cullers of Muncie, Bruce and Beth Bailey of Daleville, Dave and Barbara Lynn of Indianapolis and Pastor John and Judy Newberg, 1 cousin: Dave Pohlhemus of Phoenix, AZ, 4 great nephews and 1 great niece.A special thank you all the people who have given care to him at Westminster Village.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville with Rev.
