Vivian Mckee Reynolds

Carmel...Vivian McKee Reynolds, 100, resident of Carmel, passed away early Tuesday morning at Carmel Health and Living in Carmel Indiana.She was born October 19, 1910 near Middletown to Roscoe and Mossie (Wood) McKee. She attended Cadiz schools and graduated from Purdue University in 1932. She married Lee Reynolds in 1937 and they moved to Boone, North Carolina where he was a professor at Appalachian State University. He had served in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, FL from 1943 to 1946 as a navigation instructor.Vivian loved gardening and flowers and in 1949 she helped organize the Boone Garden Club (Blue Ridge Garden Club). The first project of the club was to plant a flower garden and before long she and Lee had planted over 40 around the town.She and Lee maintained the gardens even as the town took them over and long after his death.They were active members of the Boone United Methodist Church and she served on the Board of Directors for Watauaga Hospital.In 1991, the town dedicated a greenway, a three mile trail along the New River, in their honor.In 1996, she was named Woman of the Year and in 1999, the town honored her for her years of voluntary service.She had been preceded in death by her husband in 1990 and a sister: Helen Shroyer in 1999.She is survived by two children: Bob (Ina) Reynolds of Spartanburg, SC and Marjorie (George) Pappaioanou of Carmel, IN, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown.Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, near Middletown.Friends may call one hour before the services on Saturday at the funeral home.A Memorial service will also be held on March 5 at 10 am at the Boone United Methodist Church.Memorials may be made to Boone United Methodist Church, 671 New Market Blvd, Boone, NC 28607, The Boone Community Appearance Commission, Town of Boone, c/o Shannon Isaacs, 321 East King Street, Boone NC 28607 or the Blue Ridge Garden Club, 815 Daisy Ridge Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
