Anderson...Virgil Gay Matlock, 90, Anderson, went to be with his Lord on January 17, 2007 at Vermillion Place assisted living center. He was born November 19, 1916 in Hogan, Virginia and had resided in the Anderson area since 1947.He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1978 and also pastored several churches including: Huntsville Community Church, Westside Holiness Tabernacle (now Memorial Circle) and Corinth Christian Church.He was a member of the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, a musician who enjoyed playing and teaching piano and guitar, and an avid chess and checkers player. He was also a poet and song writer, and had several songs published. He had an extensive library and enjoyed serving the Lord by teaching and preaching.He is survived by daughter: Linda Stanger Babbitt (husband; Rick) of Anderson, son: Mark Matlock (wife Diana) of Pendleton and sister: Irene Harvey (husband Lundy) of Anderson. His grandchildren are: David Conway (wife: Jessica) of Pendleton, Andrew Matlock (wife: Jennifer) of Noblesville and Athena Matlock of Anderson. He also had six great grandchildren: Tyler and Anna Conway, Ryan, Aaron, Kaitlyn and Megan Matlock and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Doris, whom he married on March 14, 1942, his parents; Clint and Lille Matlock and he son-in-law: Skip Stanger.He and his family were so grateful and appreciative of the kind and loving companions and staff at Vermillion Place , where he lived the past year.A life celebration service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Middletown Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Philip C. Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Harlan Cemetery near Shirley, IN.Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Friday, January 19 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown and one hour prior to the services at the church.Memorials may be made to the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, 698 North 5th, Middletown, IN 47356.Online Guestbook at:
