Middletown...Virgil David Haynes, 78, lifetime resident of Middletown, died Saturday evening at his residence after a lengthy illness.He was born December 1, 1923 in Middletown, the son of the late Virgil and Mary Barrett Haynes.He was a 1941 graduate of Middletown High School. He served as a Technician 5th grade at Headquarters Company in the 127th Airborne battalion of the US Army during WW 2. He was a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division serving in Japan from February 1943 through January 1946.He worked at Delco Remy in Anderson, Honeycutt and Sons in New Castle, and Baystone Construction in Muncie where he retired in 1985. He worked for Dr. Elmer Eichhorn for several years remodeling apartments. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 1016 in Muncie, American Legion Post 216 in Middletown and a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars #266 of Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leila Jo (Reedy) on September 22, 2001 and also his two brothers: Fred Haynes and Terry Haynes.He is survived by his two daughters: Tamara Kay Walters (Ken) of Middletown and Sandara Jo Haynes (Joe Cahue and daughter Alisha) of Muncie. Three grandchildren: Shawn Rene Price (Steve) of Monticello, Tory Ann Meinders (Jarred) of Milan and Nikki Haynes (Aaron Harris) of Anderson, Three great grandchildren; Austin Masters and Shayla Meinders of Milan and David Gavin Haynes of Anderson, Two Step grandsons; Aaron and Matthew Walters of Middletown and four sisters; Lucille Gavin, Betty Troy, and Janet Harter (Charles) of Middletown and Judy Cunningham of Anderson, Four brothers; Jim Haynes (Connie) and Norm Haynes of Middletown, Ralph Haynes (Lila) of Marion and Don Haynes (Connie) of Florida, Two Sister-in-Laws; Betty Parrish of Middletown and Joyce Hodson (Francis) of Chesterfield, several nieces and nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Dr. Philip C. Rogers officiating.A Dove Release memorial service will follow at Miller Cemetery, east of Middletown.Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Ball Memorial Hospital Hospice Program through the funeral home.Online Guestbook and Family Condolences at: www.ballardandsons.com
