Our Lord has called Home our beloved Vernon S. Miller, 83, of Middletown on Tuesday August 22, 2023. He was born on December 8, 1939, in Knightstown to the late Emmet and Margaret (Stites) Miller.
A 1958 graduate of Spiceland High School in a class of only 24. In the fall of 1958 Vernon was one of twenty hired to work for the Indiana State Highway Department after his mother saw an ad at the Indiana State Fair. On November 20, 1964 Vernon, started work at Delco Remy Plant 7 in Anderson making horns and ignition switches. While working at Delco, he attended Purdue University Extension in Anderson, to become a Tool and Die maker. On December 9, 1999 after 35 years of service Vernon retired from Plant 16 Department 10 as a Jig Mill Machinist.
Vernon was a member and Deacon at Upper Fall Creek Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed researching history at the library, going to antique malls, classic cars and model trains. Vernon loved watching Big 10 football and basketball. After retirement Vernon enjoyed meeting up with his friends daily for morning breakfast. He loved Black Raspberry Pie, Butter Pecan ice cream and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Anita (Kal) Blumberg and Kent (Kassi) Miller; granddaughter, Eileen Blumberg; step grandchildren, Eric, Emily, Alivia and Hayden; brother, Randall Miller along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Smith.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday September 1, 2023 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
