Middletown...Valasta Jean (Simmons) Bell, 90, resident of Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown passed away Monday, September 14, 2020.
She was born in Pendleton, October 3, 1929, the daughter of Robert and Ruth E. Umbenhower Simmons.
She was a legal assistant for many years for Smoot, Johnson and Johnson, Attorneys at Law. She was a graduate of Pendleton High School and Anderson Business College.
She lived in Sulphur Springs for several years and was a member of the ABWA as well as the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church,
She is survived by her children, Annita Ruth Murfin (Hugh), Lori Dickey (Bob), Shella Chestnutt (Bud) and Sam Bell (Lisa), grandchildren; Chad Murfin (Vonnie), Ed Bell , Ruth Fuchs (Dave). Darrell Murfin (Tymm), Andrew Jacman (Lauren), Shyra Chestnutt Devon Bell (Kelly), Trevor Bell, Jolene Scarberry (Justin), Nathan Bell (Andi), Tom Dickey (Peggy), Tony Dickey (Becki) and Tim Dickey (Melanie), 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, her mother and father, and five sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton with Pastor Richard Olson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children.
