Thomas Edgar ""Ed"" Riley, of Middletown, passed away at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 due to complications of kidney failure. He was born in Anderson on April 22, 1943 to the late Raymond Riley and Wilma (Russell) Riley, who survives. Ed attended Middletown High School and was a veteran of the Air Force where he served as an Airman 2nd Class. He retired from General Motors-Guide Lamp, was a member of Middletown American Legion Post 216, Vintage Chevy Club of America, Model A Club, Central Indiana Car Club, National Hot Rod Association and 663 UAW, where he was a committeeman.Besides his mother, Ed is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty (Rogers) Riley; his son, Rick and Angie Riley, Middletown; daughter, Elaine Merritt, Chattanooga, TN; his sister, Debbie Smith (husband: Allan) Middletown; 3 grandchildren, Cody Riley, Samara Sneed and Jayme Riley, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Riley and his brother, James Riley.A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home 118 S. 5th St. Middletown, with Pastor Marty Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery with military rites conducted by Middletown American Legion Honor Guard Post 216 and the United States Airforce. The family has asked that anyone with a hot rod or antique car is welcome to lead the procession to Miller Cemetery.Friends and family may visit at the funeral home from 11-2 pm on Saturday prior to service time.The Ballard Family is honored to celebrate the life of Ed Riley.
