Middletown...Sumner Scott Spiker, 68, resident of the Middletown area since 1945, died Friday morning at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness.He was born in Wetmore, Kansas, April 7, 1935, the son of Roscoe E. and Helen V. Scott Spiker. He attended Lapel High School and worked for 27 years as a truck driver for Central Transport Company retiring in 1997.He was a member of the Local Teamsters #135, the Valley Grove Free-Will Baptist Church and was a US Navy veteran.Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Marybell Begley Spiker of Middletown, 1 daughter: Melissa Jennings of Anderson and 2 sons: Douglas (Patricia) Spiker and Stephen (Linda) Spiker both of Middletown, grandchildren: Douglas, Mary Katherine, Bella Marie and Ashlee Spiker of Middletown and Christian Jennings of Anderson, also by a previous marriage: 1 daughter: Penny Badgley of Anderson, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 3 brothers: Glenn (Betty) Spiker of Indianapolis, Jerry (Frances) Spiker of Middletown and Max Spiker of Muncie, 3 sisters: Linda Newby of Middletown, Betty (Bob) McMullan of Lapel and Patty (Rick) Morin of Middletown, several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Russell and Richard.Funeral Services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown, IN.Cremation will follow.Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Heart Associaition.Online Guestbook is available at:
