Sue Anne Painter, 87, of Middletown passed away on Thursday May 2, 2024 at the Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was born on July 25, 1936 in Henry County to the late Max and Evelyn (Holloway) Stonebraker.
A 1954 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School Sue went on to get her Master’s Degree from Ball State University. A long-time teacher, Sue taught second grade at Sulphur Springs Elementary School and then retired from Shenandoah in 1995. Sue had an impact on so many of her students at a very young age and she always looked to help others in her community. She was a member of Sulphur Springs Christian Church and the Eastern Star Chapter in Sulphur Springs. Sue loved being involved in all her kids and grandkids activities and sports. In her younger days, Sue was a great athlete and before there was any girls’ sports, she enjoyed competing against the boys and often times beating them. Sue loved all animals especially dogs and the ducks she feed at the park. She was a huge Pacers fan and TJ McConnell was her favorite player. Sue and her husband Topper enjoyed traveling and taking yearly trips to Florida.
Sue is survived by her husband, Hubert “Topper” Painter; sons, Greg Painter and John Painter; grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Painter, Lori (Brad) McDole, Emily Painter and Madison Painter; Great grandchildren, Hunter, Jayden, Nolan, Kelsey, Rylan and Owen.
Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday May 8, 2024 at Sulphur Springs Christian Church with Pastor CJ Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery in Middletown. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Church. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown.
