Steven Leroy Vance, 73, of Yorktown, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was born on June 8, 1949 in Henry County, a son of the late Lewis L. and Ann L. (Reed) Vance.
Steven graduated from Daleville High School and ITT Technical Institute in Fort Wayne with a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. He retired from Ball State University, where he worked as a broadcast engineer in the teleplex-media services with WIPB-TV. Steven also helped run Ball States radio station, WBSB 89.5, as well as a radio station in Knoxville, Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, he was employed at Walters State Community College of Morristown, Tennessee. He was a member of the University Christian Church in Muncie, Indiana and loved his church and was a devoted Christian.
Steven enjoyed golfing, taking his family to shows a Emens Auditorium and eating lunch in the Ball State village. He loved taking trips to Tennessee as well as Amazon-ing surprise gifts to his nieces and nephew. Steven took upon the role of being a grandparent and parent to his nieces after the passing of their parents.
He was a kidney transplant recipient and a cancer survivor. Overcoming many obstacles, he never gave up on his will to live.
Steven is survived by his 2 nieces; Elizabeth (Ryan) Wallace of Westpoint, Indiana and Valerie (Chris) Myers of Anderson, Indiana; great nephew, Collin Myers; great niece, Caitlyn Myers; an aunt, Faye Taylor of Morristown, Tennessee; a cousin, Carl (Trisha) Reed of Sneedville, Tennessee; and many cousins residing in Tennessee; as well as a dear friend, Gene Smith.
In addition to his parents, Steven is preceded in death by his grandparents, Carson and Hattie Reed; a brother and his wife, Terry and Judy Vance.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Daleville, Indiana with Pastor Jon Bowman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Donor Network at 3760 Guion Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
