Steven Lee Graddy, 76, of Middletown passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Middletown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 7, 1949, to the late MaryAnn Scothorn and Carl Graddy.
Steve was a proud graduate of the Middletown High School Class of 1967, where he was a member of the baseball, basketball, track and cross-country teams. He was honored to be the prom king and served as class treasurer all four years. A true Middletown Cossack, he carried his school spirit with him throughout his life. An avid golfer, Steve loved traveling to Hilton Head and Fort Myers Beach. He also found great joy in coaching little league and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren at their plays and sporting events.
Steve retired from General Motors- Delco Remy after 30 years of service. Steve was also a successful businessman who owned three businesses in Middletown. In 1975 at the age of 26, Steve purchased Steve’s Still liquor store and operated it for many years. After selling the liquor store, Steve and Jerry Benbow purchased the Scorecard. Later he opened Steve and Ed’s.
Steve was deeply committed to the AA program, celebrating 27 years of sobriety. He was passionate about helping others on their journey in recovery, offering support and encouragement to all who wanted it.
He shared 56 years of marriage with his wife, Lyla, whom he had loved since the 6th grade. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent at their sporting events and loved teaching them how to fish and drive. Steve leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and kindness. His unwavering dedication to his family, community, and those in need will never be forgotten. Steve had a warm and outgoing personality – he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Lyla Graddy; daughter, Wendy (Barry) Vinard; their children, Rylan and Lauren; son, Bryce (Angel) Graddy; their children, Kinsey (Dylan) Rayn, Katelyn Humphrey, Karly (Nathan) Brummett and Kameron Graddy; great grandchildren, Croslee, Crue, Oakley and Caylor; 3 sisters, Sue Ann (Vic) Bertram, Mary Alice Childers and Dixie (Mark) Sturgeon; several nieces and nephews.
