Pendleton...Russell C. Foist, 97, resident of Pendleton, passed away December 28, 2010 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, IN.He was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana, June 27, 1913, the son of Clifford C and Myrtle(Bowman) Foist.He worked for Guide Lamp for 43 years. During his high school summers, he carried water and bricks when the factory was being built and then was hired by Guide Lamp after graduation. He was part of the Guide lamp Management and retired from the position of Plant Superintendent, Plant 7, in 1974.He was a veteran of WW 2 serving in the Army Air Corps as a radioman, bombardier and machine gunner flying in a B-25 Bomber with Crews of the 77th Bomb Squadron, 28th Bomb Group Attu, Alaska, North Pacific,from Aug '42 to Jan '46. He flew 17 missions over the enemy occupied Kurile Islands and shipping in the North Pacific.After retirement, he continued farming for many years and enjoyed life's passions of fishing and hunting with frequent out of state trips always ""looking for the big one"", and many times, he succeeded in cathing that trophy fish.He moved to this area in 1955 and was a member of Fellowship Lodge F and AM in Anderson and Eden United Methodist Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Mary Gretchen Kleyla, Loretta Beeman and Else Lorraine Stanley, 1 brother: Calvin Coolidge Foist.Survivors include his wife of 72 years: Rozella M. (Manis) Foist of Pendleton, 3 children: Sandra Foist Platus (Gene) of Morristown New Jersey, Tamara Pringle (Robert) of Cleveland, Ohio and Timothy L. Foist of Salina, KS and Cottonwood, AZ, 1 sister: Dolas Snyder (Jack) of Anderson, 3 grandchildren: Captain Aaron Foist, Ft. Campbell KY and Afghanistan, Caleb Fosit of Salt lake City, UT and Meredith Pringle, Chicago, IL, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Rev. Sally Dickerson officiating.Burial will follow in Miller Cemtery, east of Middletown.Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the services.Memorials may be made to the Eden United Methodist Church.Online Guestbook at:
