Middletown...Rufus Lowell ""Chappy"" Chapman, 90, lifetime resident of the Middletown area, died Thursday evening at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, after an extended illness.He was born in Jefferson Township, August 10, 1912, the son of Rufus and Mary Derrow Chapman. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW 2 and retired in 1972 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 42 years of service in Utility Inspection.He was a member of the Upper Fall Creek Church of the Brethren where he had been on the board of trustees. He was a member of the Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood and had been on the Miller Cemetery board of trustees for many years.He was a member of the American Legion.He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma in 2000.Survivors include: 2 sons: Bill (Janet) Chapman of Middletown and Jerry (Debbie) Chapman of Middletown, 3 daughters: Nancy (Kenneth) Cook of Losantville and Joyce (Phil) Ambs of Middletown and Sue (Robert) Melton of Middletown, 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Pastor Valerie Kline and Pastor Tony Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Miller Cemetery Fence Fund through the funeral home.Online guestbook available at: www.ballardandsons.com
