Middletown...Robert Gene Young, 83, resident of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.He was born in Markleville, May 24, 1923, the son of Robert Cecil and Stella Walker Young.He was a 1941 graduate of Markleville High School and retried in 1981 from Westinghouse after 17 years of service.He was a lifelong farmer and collected knives and coins and enjoyed watching baseball and Indiana University basketball.He attended the Sulphur Springs United Church of Christ and was a 60 year member of the Markleville Masonic Lodge.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Mariam (Gardner), brothers: Ralph Milton Young and Gerald Edmon Young, sisters: Doris Etta Johns and Frances Ruth Scott.Survivors include daughters: Katina Marie Niemi (Richard) of Marshall MI, Alana Grace Brown of Anderson, sons: Robert Mark Young(Jane) and Darrell Lee Young of Middletown, 5 grandchildren: Andy, Matt, Holly, Stephanie and Shaunda and 3 great grandchildren: Sydney, Kurtis and Eli, several nieces and nephews, sisters: Evelyn Fern Karpenski of Shirley and Martha June Zirkle of Anderson.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with James Behrendt officiating.Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery.Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home with masonic rites at 8:00 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Spiceland Fire Department or the Middletown EMS.Online Guestbook at:
