Robert George Vanzant

New Castle...Robert George VanZant, 83, lifetime resident of New Castle, Indiana, passed away Wednesday evening at his residence after an extended illness.He was born in New Castle, April 16, 1926, the son of George and Marcella Hessler VanZant.He was a 1944 graduate of New Castle High School and retired from the Post Office in 1984 after 39 years of service.He was a WW 2 veteran of the US Army and a bronze star recipient.He was a member of the New Castle American Legion Post #317, the Elks Lodge #484, the Rural Letter Carriers Association and the fist Presbyterian Church.Survivors include his wife of 57 years: LouAnna (Diekman) of New Castle, 2 sons: Rex (Terri) VanZant of New Castle and Dr. Scott Vanzant (Dr. Karen Gerhart) of Pittsburgh, 1 daughter: Ellen Johnson (Christopher) of Muncie, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 daughter: Katherine Ann in 1976.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle with Rev. Rex Espiritu officiating assisted by Rev. Marty Ballard.Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.Friends may call Sunday at the funeral home from 4-8 PM.Memorials contributions may be made to the American Heart association or the Henry County humane Society.
