Richard "Dick" Kenneth Smith

Richard “Dick” Kenneth Smith, 80, of Middletown passed away on Tuesday June 20, 2023. He was born in Anderson on June 30, 1942 to the late Virgil and Martha (Layton) Smith.
A 1960 graduate of Middletown High School, Dick went on to Ball State University where he got a Bachelor’s degree in Business. In 1998 He retired from General Motors in Anderson after 34 years of service.
Dick was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, he enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards. Janis and Dick loved traveling together and spending time with family.
He is survived by his four children, Sheri Rudig of Anderson, Rick (Sheila) Smith of Middletown, Debbi Smith of Anderson and Michael Smith of Anderson; grandchildren, Tina Rains, Brandy Smith, Jerry (Amanda) Rudig, Ashley (Jason) Reed, Cory (Macy) Smith, Taylor (Fiancé Jeff) Bell and Nick Bell; ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Janis Smith; brother, Douglas Smith; son-in-law, Gary Rudig.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday June 23, 2023 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown with Pastor Tony Darling officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday June 22, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
In Lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choosing.
