New Castle...Rebecca D. Oakes Hooper,63, resident of New Castle, passed away Monday morning at Henry County Memorial Hospital.She was born in New Castle, November 30, 1947, the daughter of John D. and Nellie Sanders Oakes.She was a 1966 grduate of Middletown High School and a 1970 graduate of Ball State University. She recieved her MA in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University.She had taught at New Castle Schools for 17 years in the Science department and in Chamois and Washington, Missouri, primarily in Osage R1 Schools and Washington High School.She attended many graduate level training classes at Penn State, University of Missouri and Michigan State.She was a member of the ISTA.Survivors include her husband of 40 years: Donald Edwin Hooper, Jr., of New Castle, 2 children: Leah Denise Hooper (Elizabeth Knight) of Carbondale, IL and Jason Bradley Hooper (Lynette) of Metamora, IL, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters: Carolyn Ertel of Middletown, Betty Brenan of West LaFayette, and Nancy Oakes of New Castle, 2 brothers: John David (Linda) Oakes of Ft. Myers, FL., and Thomas Eugene (Flory) Oakes of Anderson, several nieces and nephews.A time of reflection will be held on Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th Middletown, IN.Memorials to the charity of the doners choice.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
