Lakes Wales, FL...Rainey Peckinpaugh, 88, resident of Lake Wales , FL, passed away in Florida from a sudden illness on October 1, 2013.She was born in Hindman, KY, the daughter of John and Mary Hale on October 30, 1924.A longtime resident of the Middletown area, she devoted her life to the community. She served as President and Treasurer and was lifetime member of the American Legion Post 216 Auxiliary for 14 years and was instrumental in the creation of the War Memorial in Dietrich Memorial Park. She worked in the Fall Creek Township office of the Trustee and the Middletown/Fall Creek Community Food Pantry.She is survived by her daughter: Linda Valentine (Peckinpaugh) of Lake Wales, 6 grandchildren: John Eichhorn of Castleton, IN, James Eichhorn of Middletown, Charity Andrews of Sylva, NC, Debbie Barlow of Brownsburg and Cassandra Peckinpaugh of Ft. Mill, NC and Alysssa Peckinpaugh of Ft. Mills, SC and well as four great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years: Galen Peckinpaugh of Lake Wales in 2011 and a son: Tom Peckinpaugh in 2009.A Memorial services will be held at the American Legion Post 216 in Middletown, on Friday October 18 at 6:00 pm.Memorials may be made to the Middletown/Fall Creek Community Food Bank.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com or Facebook/Ballard and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation services.The Ballard family is honored to serve in the celebration of the life of Rainey Peckinpaugh with family and friends.
