Norma Elaine Dare

Barrington, IL....Norma Elaine Dare, 87, of Barrington, Illinois, formerly of Anderson and Daleville, Indiana, peacefully passed away June 10 in Barrington.Elaine was born at Home Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, to John Philip and Inez Ruth (Applegate) Wright on New Year's Eve 1928. She graduated from Daleville High School in 1947 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Ball State University, where she was a member of Alpha Omicrom Pi sorority, Kappa Kappa Chapter.Elaine married Robert Dare in 1951, and they had three children: Robert Kevin, Mark Kendall and Laura Kay. She was a devoted mother and dedicated educator, teaching primary grades and remedial reading both in Daleville and later in Anderson after the family moved there in 1967. She retired in 1987 with 32 years of service.Her retirement years were no less busy. She stayed active as an adult literacy coach, volunteering at 10th Street Elementary School in Anderson and serving as an elder and Sunday school teacher at Central Christian Church in Anderson.Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Wright; her husband, Robert; a son, Mark Dare, and her dear friend, Wayne Shirey. She is survived by her son, Robert Kevin (Susan) Dare of Owensburg, Indiana; her daughter, Laura Kay (Brant) Lieske of Deer Park, Illinois; a cousin, Marietta Hyatt of Poquoson, Virginia; three granddaughters, Anne Dare of West Lafayette, Indiana; Katherine Lieske of Chicago; Margaret Lieske of Deer Park, Illinois, and one grandson, Andrew Lieske, also of Deer Park, Illinois.The family extends its gratitude to the caring staff at Sunrise of Barrington and to the compassionate team of caregivers from JourneyCare Hospice, who made her final days as pain-free as possible.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JourneyCare Foundation, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025 or online at www.journeycare.org.Visitation will be held at Ballard & Sons Funeral Home, 8212 Walnut St., Daleville, Indiana, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, immediately followed by a memorial service with Pastor Gary McManus officiating.
