Nancy Sue Oakes

Nancy Sue Oakes, 84, of New Castle, Indiana, received the jewels in her crown she earned while on earth, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Stonebrook Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. Born on December 27, 1939, in Middletown, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of the late John Daniel and Nellie Easter (Sanders) Oakes.

 Nancy’s life was defined by her servant’s heart and unwavering love for others. She selflessly put the needs of family and friends before her own and was deeply devoted to those she loved. Known as the “keeper of the Oakes family story,” Nancy cherished her family and took great pride in preserving their legacy.

 A dedicated educator, Nancy shared her knowledge and passion for accounting and business with countless students over her 36-year teaching career. She taught in Skokie, Illinois; Elwood, Knightstown and New Castle where she retired in 2001 after 20 years of service.

 Nancy is survived by her sister, Betty Brenan of West Lafayette; brother, John (Linda) Oakes of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dan Oakes, Becky Hooper, Tom Oakes, and Carolyn Ertel; niece, Dawn Oakes; and nephew, Benjamin Brenan.
