Nancy Ellen Manring, 91, of Daleville, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Lincolnshire Place in Muncie. She was born on February 7, 1933, in Muncie, a daughter of the late Paul and Ella (Brady) Hale.
Nancy graduated from Daleville High School Class of 1951. She then went on to Ball State Teachers College and in 1955 she earned a bachelor’s degree. In 1967 Nancy completed her master’s in business from Ball State University.
Nancy began her teaching career at Jefferson Township High School in Upland in 1955, a position she enjoyed very much before moving on to Governor I.P. Gray School in Portland, IN in1959 teaching there until 1961. Following her time in Portland, Nancy returned “home” to Daleville High School in 1961where she retired from her 34-year teaching career on May 30, 1995. Any former student of Nancy’s would tell you how important their typing skills are to them today.
Throughout her teaching career, Nancy was instrumental in several organizations. She led the Business Professionals of America Chapter at Daleville High School to several winning state competitions. As a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, Nancy served as president of the Teachers Union at Daleville and Daleville Federation of Teachers for multiple terms, fighting fiercely for the rights of her fellow union members.
Nancy is survived by her children, Cindy (Darrell) Moody of Muncie, Carol (Rick) Ellis of Muncie and son, Richard “Joe” (Terri) Manring of Blountsville; 10 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Manring; brothers, Paul Robert Hale and William “Bill” Hale; sisters, Mary Alice Gustin and Betty Ann Hankins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Friday, August 16, 2024, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Muncie. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Daleville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Daleville Community Library.
