Michiael L. Minnick

June 18, 1929 — October 16, 2021

Michiael L. Minnick, 92, passed away on October 16, 2021, after a brief illness.  Mike, as he was known to friends and family, was a lifelong resident of Middletown, IN a place he cherished throughout his life.

Mike graduated from Middletown High School in 1947 and served as a military policeman in the Marine Corps.  He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Ball State University and became a government and history teacher at Middletown High School.  He later earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Ball State and was chief psychologist at the Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton for many years before moving into private practice.  He was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church and Middletown Masonic Lodge and served as town marshal of Middletown and special deputy on the police force from the 1950's through 1970's.

An avid historian, accomplished researcher, and gifted writer, Mike spent his retirement traveling throughout the US with his wife of 67 years, Shirley, tracing and documenting more than 200 years of his family's lineage from Middletown back to its European origin.  As a result of his findings, he qualified for and became a Life Member of the Sons of the American Revolution.  A humorist at heart, he wrote and published articles describing the events, characters, and lives of people who lived in the Middletown area during the Depression and Post-War eras.  In addition to his endless intellectual curiosity, Mike was a skilled tradesman and craftsman who loved to work with his hands.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roy L. Minnick; mother, Grace (Newman) Minnick; sister, Judith (Minnick) Hanes all of Middletown; brothers, John Patrick Minnick of Valrico, FL and Carson Smith of New Castle.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Driver) Minnick of Middletown; sons, Brian Minnick of Middletown, John Minnick (Mindy) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Collin Minnick of Indianapolis, Sophie Minnick of Indianapolis; beloved nephews Patrick Hanes of Bonners Ferry, ID and Tony (Lynnette) Hanes of Indianapolis; several other relatives.

Per his wishes, only graveside services with immediate family will be conducted at Miller's Cemetery in Middletown.  Services have been entrusted to Ballard and Son's Funeral Home in Middletown.
