Anderson....Michelle "Shelley" Denise Cookman, 55, died December 5, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Anderson, April 11, 1965, the daughter of Michael and Sharon Cookman. She graduated from Concord High School and received a degree in Deaf Education from Ball State University.
She taught school in Augusta, Georgia and Warsaw, Indiana.
In 2006 she took a job as a Nanny for her niece and nephew Molly and Forrest Cookman and nurtured them for 6 years.
She is survived by her parents, her brothers family, Kevin (Noel), Forrest (McKenzie) and Molly. Also aunts and uncles; Gary and Treva Kennedy, Ted and Linda Cookman, Max and Nina Ross and Bonnie Harrell. Also a special cousin Desiree (Dennis) Tilford who was like a sister, Matt (Connie) and Jordan (Beth) Cookman, Chad (Cheryl) and Lanny (Casendra) Kennedy, Lori Beth (Dave) Knox, Janie (Jeff) Hubble, Tim (Stacy) Ross, Bill (Evelyn) Harrell, Barb (Tom) Prince, Brenda Harrell, Bud and Lynn Kennard, Dawn (Chad) Owren, Mike (Denise) Kennard, Kyle Kennedy and John Fox, her best friend, Lori Cunningham and family and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents James and Margaret Kennedy and Forrest and Eileen Cookman, Aunt Sandi Ross and Uncle David Kennedy and cousin Mickey (Dinette) Ross.

A special time of gathering will be held on December 20, 2020 from 2-4 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown. CDC and State mandates for Covid-19 will be required with only 50 people allowed in the funeral home at any one time. Masking, social distancing and hand sanitation are required.
