Mendel L. Bowers, 100, of Middletown, was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at St. Vincent Regional Hospital, Anderson. Mendel was born in Henry County on March 11, 1917 to the late Otto and Mary McWilliams Bowers. He was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and was a World War II Army veteran, where he had tours in Guam, Philippines, Ieshima, and Okinawa. When Mendel returned home from serving his country, he met and married the love of his life, Donna, whom he shared 41 years with, until her death in 1987. Mendel retired from Warner Gear after 41 years of service. Following his retirement, he served God's church in about every capacity imaginable. He was the custodian for Sulphur Springs Christian Church, where he also taught Sunday School, serving as a trustee, holding many offices, and worked on various committees.He will be greatly missed by his 2 sons, Danny Lynn Bowers, Virginia, and Stephen Michael Bowers (wife: Sharon) Middletown; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna Bowers, brother, Forest Bowers, sister, Lois Rutherford, and sister-in-law, Debbie Bowers.Services to celebrate Mendel's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. 5th St. Middletown with Pastor CJ Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery with military honors provided by the local honor guard. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home an hour prior to services.Memorial contributions may be directed to Sulphur Springs Christian Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.The Ballard Family is honored to celebrate the life of Mendel Bowers.Online condolences may be expressed at www.ballardandsons.com .
