Daleville...Melvin Russell Pugsley, 77, resident of Daleville, passed away Thursday evening at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.He was born in Daleville, March 27, 1929, the son of George and Marybelle Haugh Pugsley.He attended Daleville High School and retired in 1991 from Warner Gear in Muncie where he began his career as a gear cutter.He one of the original member of the Salem Township/Daleville Fire Department and served for 45 years as a firefighter. He served the Civil Defense of Delaware County for 10 years and was president in 1966.He was on the Championship waterball teams for the fire department from 1958-63 and had attended Bethany Christian Church.Survivors are two daughters: Angela (Mike) Dennis of Hartford City and Rowena Brissenden of Anderson, 6 grandchildren: Rhonda Farmer of Anderson, Melvin (Shari) Bennett of Anderson, Candy James of Anderson, Toney Anderson of Middletown, A.J. Greenwalt of US Navy in California and Amanda Harvey of Chesterfield, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, 2 brothers: George Pugsley of Chesterfield and Lawrence Pugsley of Anderson.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Rosemary, 2 daughters: Meleana Greenwalt and Bonnie Jo Pugsley, 1 brother: William Pugsley and 1 sister: Melvina Chambers.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut St., Daleville with Rev. Gary McManus officiating.Burial will follow in Bronnenberg Cemetery in Chesterfield.Friends may call on Sunday from 2-8 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem TWP/Daleville Fire Department.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
