Melvin W. Dick,99, of New Castle passed away Friday January 14, 2022 at his residence. He was born on Aug 7, 1922 in Pueblo, KY a son of the late Elmer G. and Nannie C. (Dodson) Dick. On September 19, 1947 he married the love of his life, Doris L. Carroll.
Melvin retired from farming after 47 years in Harrison Township and also done maintenance work; He was also a member of Farm Bureau. He was a very proud WWII veteran of the US Army, serving from 1942-1945 with the 206 Engineer C Battalion Company B and had received four battle stars during his time of service. He was a man of faith and had attended Center Chapel Church and for the past 20 years was a member of the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle. Melvin enjoyed camping with his family, hunting and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved a good practical joke and was often the instigator.
Melvin is survived by his children, Eileen Riggs of Middletown; son, David L. (Joni) Dick of Middletown, Donna J. (Steve) Beck of Lagro; grandchildren, Darcy (John) Cooper, Richard (Kellie) Riggs, Leslie (Billy) Sanders, Amy (Jerry) Simmons, Alison (James Begley) Telfer, Stephanie (Nick) Robertson and Leanne Beck; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Eva Norris; sister-in-law, Beth Dick; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dick; son, Paul D. Dick; five brothers, Edgar, Roy, Marvin, Larl, Carl and Eugene Dick; son-in-law, Larry Riggs; grandson, Ronnie Riggs; granddaughter, Molly Ann Riggs.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday January 18, 2022 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion and the US Army. Visitation will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
