Max "Hoppy" Hoppes

January 11, 1942 — June 17, 2021

Pendleton...Max "Hoppy" Hoppes, 79, went to meet his waiting loved ones on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from complications from a stroke.

He was born in Anderson,  January 11, 1942 the son of Hercules "Bill" and Helen Norris Hoppes. He was a 1960 graduate of Madison Heights High School and worked at Delco Remy plant 3 on a punch press retiring in 1994 after 30 years of service.

He married the love of his life, Donna Jean Coburn "Cupcake" on August 31, 1973 and they spent 48 years together traveling and boating. They loved cruising and mushroom hunting in Michigan.

He was a member of the AMVETS Post 26 of Pendleton and the American Legion Post 27 of Pendleton.

He was never in the military but supported the veterans with donations.

He never met a stranger and could remember names of people he hadn't seen in years.

He bowled on the Delco Remy team and loved to play golf with his buddies and have a beer on the 19th Hole.  He enjoyed being on Lake Monroe.

Survivors are his wife, Donna Jean of Pendleton, children: Tonia Hurt of Daleville, Lisa "Bob" summers of Chesterfield, James Walker (Brenda) and Eric Hoppes, grandchildren Jami Baker (Chad), Skylar Hurt, Chris Anderson, Jason Walker (Allie) Alexis Ray (Josh) Jessica Gray, Logan Edwards, Makenzie Edwards, his best friend from first grade, Edward Combs (Margaret) 13 great grandchilden.

He had been preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Angela Anderson and great  grandson, Kyle Baker.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 23, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown.
