New Castle....Margaretta Jane (Peggy) Drury, 90, passed away Saturday morning at The Waters of New Castle.She was born on Locust Street in Middletown, the daughter of Claude E. and Ethel Daniels Greenlee and grew up in the High Street house built by her grandfather using lumber from trees grown on his farm.As a child in Los Angeles, she witnessed Amelia Earhart practice ""touch and go"" landings and for a time being a pilot was her dream.She graduated from Middletown High School in 1941, Ball State University in 1951, with a degree in History and English, and in 1956 from Indiana University with her MS in Library Science.She was employed in libraries in Muncie, Anderson and in New Mexico, where she pursued doctoral studies at the University of New Mexico. She had fond memories of Tohatchi, New Mexico and working in the Navajo and Apache reservation. She thoroughly enjoyed her profession and was especially proud of mentoring students who also became librarians. Among these is retired Shenandoah Elementary School Librarian; Ann Rockwell.Peggy was a lifelong member of the Middletown United Methodist Church.Survivors include her son: Charles R. Drury of New Castle, sister: Mary (Richard H.) Leitch of New Castle, nieces: Lucinda and Susan and special friends Paul and Teresa Dennis of Middletown,She loved books, animals, people and life.
