Madeline Blackburn

March 4, 1936 — September 12, 2021

Madeline Blackburn, 85, Decatur, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Adams Woodcrest. She was born in Decatur  March 4, 1936 to the late Royal and Esther (Schnepp) Friend. She married the love of her life Roger Blackburn on June 19, 1955. He preceded her in death May 1, 2020.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, which is now closed. She served as an Elder, Deacon, Ruth Circle Leader, Presbyterian Women Moderator and Superintendent of the Sunday school. She is now a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. She was an Honorary Psi Iota XI Sorority member.

She ran Blackburn's Mimeograph shop in the 60's. Worked for the State Board of Health and worked 28 years in the Adams Co. Clerk's Office. She and Roger were active Ballroom dancers for many years. She enjoyed summers at Manapogo Park at Lake Pleasant, Indiana and winters in Scottsdale Arizona. She loved spending time with her family.

Among survivors are two daughters, Terra (Anthony) Roop of Decatur, Teena (Tony Genth)Blum of Decatur. A son Trent (Amy) Blackburn of Bluffton. Eight grandchildren Tracy (Ryan) Ballard, Daryl Roop, Trent Jr. (Erica) Blackburn, Alexis Blackburn, Tyler Ashley,  Ben Blum, Taylor Blum, Rachel Blum. Four great-grandchildren. Kennedy, Madison, Monroe Ballard and Ocean Chatterton.

A Memorial service will be held jointly for Madeline and Roger Blackburn, as services for Roger were postponed due to Covid restrictions.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2nd at 2:00 PM at Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Randy Rossman officiating.  Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.

Friends may call at Zion United Church of Christ on Saturday Oct. 2nd from 1:00 pm until the start of services.
