Middletown...Lorene Ann Goodwin, Middletown, died Friday, June 1 at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson, IN, following a long, spirited battle against cancer.She was born on August 26, 1927 in Hindsboro, Illinois, one of a set of quadruplets (two girls and two boys) to Theodore and Bessie Welch. She and her family moved to Anderson in 1954 and later to Middletown in 1957 where she lived for the rest of her life.During her work career, she was the office manager and bookkeeper for many years for a number of Anderson area physicians. She retired in 1980.Lorene was an outstanding homemaker who loved to sew and cook, and especially delighted in entertaining her family and friends during holidays. She always had a full pot of coffee available for anyone who stopped by for a visit. She was active for several years in the Middletown Little League and the Middletown Babe Ruth League, serving on numerous positions, helping spearhead fund raising activities. She was one of those fiercely independent ""Greatest Generation"" people who survived the Depression, and helped win World War 2 and the Cold War with hard work, determination and a no-nonsense, common sense approach to life. These qualities and her beautiful smile will be sadly missed.She is survived by three children: Chris (wife: Valarie) Goodwin of Middletown, Dennis (wife: Carrie) Goodwin of Anderson and Marcia (husband: Gary) Martin of Anderson. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Jennifer Goodwin-Schlegelmilch (husband: Wes) Scott Martin and Amanda Laflamme, and two great grandchildren: Emma and Jackson Schlegelmilch.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Gerald E. Goodwin, brother, Gerald Welch and sister, Virginia Phillips and and infant brother and sister.There will be a brief memorial service for Lorene on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Rev. David Whitteberry officiating. Refreshments will be served.There will be no calling hours and interment will take place a few days later in Hindsboro Illinois where her remains will be laid to rest next to her husband.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Middletown Food Pantry.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
