Anderson...Leroy Jack Shaffer, 64 of Anderson, passed away November 18 at the home of his brother in Sulphur Springs.After a two year battle courageous fight with cancer, leroy has finished his earthly journey and now begins eternity with Jesus.He retired from General Motors maintenance department after 34 years of service. He was a fan of IU basketball, Cubs, Nascar, and the Colts.He loved Roy Rogers and colleted memorbilia over the years. Poker was his choice of entertainment and enjoyed his ""poker buddies.""He served the US Army from 1967 to 1969 in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict.Leroy was a 29 year friend of Bill and Lois W. He shared his program of recovery and his own experiences, strength, hope with countless friends and strangers.He would always be ready to lend a helping hand, no matter what time of day or night.He generously gave of himself for his friends and lived the 12 steps of recovery in all his affairs. He will be missed by all who knew him.He was preceded in death by his father: Lee in 1993 and his mother: Daisy in 1999.He is survived by his brothers: Bruce (Brenda) Shaffer of Sulphur Springs and Frank (Julia) Shaffer of New Castle, one special daughter: Ashley Bodkins of Anderson, 2 nieces: Kelly Warden (AJ) of Kansas and Kristyn Shaffer of Tennessee, three nephews: Ryan West (Amelia) of Lebanon, IN, Travis West (Melinda) of Oceanside, CA., and Caleb West of New Castle, 2 great nieces: Larney Warden and Madelyn West.Funeral services will be held on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown by members of area Al-ANON.Leroy has chosen cremation.Friends may call on Sunday from 2 until the time of the services.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House of Hope in Anderson, IN.Online Guestbook at:
