Leatha Ann Dasher

September 1, 1950 — August 22, 2017

On August 22, 2017, Heaven welcomed Leatha Ann (Taylor) Dasher of Markleville, IN. She was born in Anderson in 1950 and made her home in the area throughout her life. She married Dale Louis Dasher on July 24, 1976, and together they had 41 special years and two children - Marisa Lynn (Dasher) McDonald and Taylor Louis ""Bud"" Dasher. When Marisa and Bud married Andrew McDonald and Melanie (Taylor) Dasher, Leatha always said she gained two more. She taught elementary school in Anderson from 1972 to 1984. She loved the kids in her class, and they loved her. Teaching was her passion. She was the favorite teacher of many, and she would have blessed many more students had her health allowed. She so loved kids: her students, her children and her grandchildren - Russell Louis Dasher and Anne Eloise Dasher. She lit up around them. With a keen eye, she noticed and cherished every subtlety of their actions and personality differences. There was never a minute she didn't want to spend with the kids. She was tough as nails and always frank, suffering no phoniness or questionable intentions in herself or anyone else. ""Work hard, play hard"" was her motto. And she lived it. She loved to joke around, with an easy laugh that filled the room. People loved to make her laugh just to hear it. It was the biggest laugh most ever heard. But she had an even bigger heart. Life may not have been kind to Leatha, but she was always a fighter. Selflessness came so naturally that she was miffed when others didn't meet the same mark. She was the most special of people, though she never thought she was anything special at all. She had a fiery devotion to her family, and she made every moment of life so much bigger, richer and deeper for everyone who shared it with her. She turned delights so small others might not even notice, into great joys. Food sold off the back of a roadside pickup truck was always the best she ever tasted. Driving with the windows down on a summer day would be right up there. And every little thing her kids and grandkids did - collecting rocks from the yard and dragging them into the house, jumping off the furniture, scrawling on a napkin - wasn't just a sign of greatness; it was already greatness, and why on earth had you not already figured that out? Which is why she'd be right down in the dirt with them. She and Dale weathered constant storms side-by-side, but she was always the brightest of lights, a force of nature, and nothing dimmed her. But the sunshine will forever be a little less bright without her here.Because she always loved the outdoors, a brief graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 26th, at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery. If you knew Leatha, you know she'd like to ""get to the point."" SERVICES Graveside Service Saturday, August 26, 201711:00 AM - 11:00 AM Mechanicsburg Cemetery ,
