Middletown....LaBerta M. Smith, 69, formerly of Parker City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 23, 2014 with her husband by her side. She moved here from Pontiac, Michigan with her husband in 2000. She was born in Greely, CO on August 17, 1945 to the late Gene Giles and Margaret Jelnick Giles. She graduated from high school in California and was retired from Keihn Corporation in Muncie after 10 years of service. In previous years she was also employed as a supervisor for Boeing Aircraft and Satern Electronics. LaBerta enjoyed horse racing and fishing in Canada with her loving husband. She will be missed by her husband of 29 years, James Smith; three children, Deena Moore, Houston, TX; Steven Moore, Paducah, KY; Becky Domoe, Palermo, CA; three step-children, James L. Smith, Springfield, IL; Renee Winchester (husband: Dan) Petersburg, MI; Martha Waltz (husband: Doug) Kalamazoo, MI; a sister, Pat Sutton (husband: Bob) Huntington Beach, CA; a brother, Gene Giles, Springfield, MO; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; three brother-in-laws, Mike, Dennis and Brian Smith and a sister-in-law, Doris Gretzinger. She will also be greatly missed by her 3 dogs, Ruby, Sisco and Sunflower. LaBerta was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Tammy Swalley (2013).Celebration Services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Ballard & Sons, 118 S. 5th St. Middletown, IN with Pastor Marty Ballard officiating. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 11-1pm.
