Anderson...Judith N. (Minnick) Hanes, 87, former resident of Middletown, passed away March 27, 2008 at St. Johns Medical Center in Anderson, after an extended illness.She was born in Sulphur Springs, August 12, 1920, the daughter of Roy and Grace Newman Minnick.She was a 1938 graduate of Middletown High School and a life member of the Middletown United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Anderson Art League. She also belonged to the Athena Circle.Judith was a gifted local artist and went through many different phases during her lifetime. She worked with watercolor and casein paints: created drawings with charcoal and pastel chalk; worked with fabric to create batiks and used ordinary wrapping paper combined with natural materials to create elaborate works, mostly religious themes.Never interested in selling her works, she exhibited at the Indiana State Fair, taking First on several occasions. During the summer of 2007, Judith had an exhibit and opening reception at the Anderson Center For The Arts. Previously her works were displayed at Purdue University.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Keith D. Hanes, and half brother: Carson Smith of New Castle.Survivors are two sons: Patrick (Jayne) Hanes of Port Hill, Idaho and Tony (Lynnette) Hanes of Pendleton, five grandchildren: Cheyenne, Christian, Joshua, and Jacob Hanes and Shane (Shonda) Pfeiffer, two brothers: John Patrick Minnick (Velma) of Valrico, FL and Michael L. Minnick (Shirley) of Middletown.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at the Middletown United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Wiles and Rev. Marty Ballard officiating.Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Landon officiating.Friends may call at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown on Sunday from 3-6 PM.Memorials may be made to the Middletown United Methodist Chruch or the Anderson Center for the Fine Arts.Online Guestbook at:
