Middletown....Joseph F. Peters, Jr., 78. resident of Middletown, passed away Saturday at Middletown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a good fight against a long term illness.He was born in Richmond, Indiana, April 21, 1937, the son of Joseph and Ethel Ridge Peters, Sr.He was a graduate of Jackson Township Schools in New Paris, OH and was a member of the Sixth Street Christian Church, where he served as Elder and choir member.He retired from the US Army as a major after 22 years of service.He worked in the plastics industry for many year serving as former president of the Society for Plastic Engineers. He was also disaster chairman for the American Red Cross. He volunteered at the St. Vincent's Cardio Rehabilitation Center and was recipient of the Governors Volunteer Action Award. He was a long time member of the Middletown Lions Club serving twice as President. He was a member of the Middletown Masonic Lodge and was former owner of WMDH Radio. Survivors are his wife of 56 years: Jerri (Bane) of Middletown, sons: Jeff (Sharon) Peters of Warsaw and Jim (Lorinda) Peters of Greenfield, 3 grandsons: Eric M. Peters, Alexander Peters and Chad (Katie) Harvey, two great grandchildren: Olivia and Ethan Harvey, 1 sister: Patty (Paul) Parks of Hargerstown.He was preceded in death by his parents.A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday at 10:00 am at Ballard and Sons, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Maynard Powell and Bob Harman officiating.Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery.Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 PM.Memorials may be made to the Sixth Street Christian Church.Online Guestbook at:
