Muncie...John Wayne West, age 46, passed away Thursday May 5 at his Muncie residence after an extended three year battle with ALS. He was born October 20, 1964, to Bill and Madonna (Dempsey) West. He was a 1983 graduate of Shenandoah High School where he was a member of the FFA. Prior to his illness he was a farmer and an owner/operator leased to Expediter Freight in Carmel, Indiana. John was a member of the White River Antique Tractor Club, Grand Spinners Square Dance Club, IDLA and a former member of the Caller Lab. John enjoyed restoring and showing antique tractors as well as square dancing and calling. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Debbie (Swaby-Platt) West, of Muncie, one son John Paul (Windi) West of Manchester, TN., stepson Frank (Heather) Platt, of San Antonio, TX., step daughter Rebecca (Joe) Mullins, of Middletown. Three sisters: Sharon (Bob) Muterspaugh of Shirley, Nancy (Bill) Lawson, of Indianapolis, Madonna (Jim) Hasty of Anderson and a brother Scott (Jody) West, of Middletown. Six grandchildren; Remy West and Ayslin Fletcher of Manchester, TN., Elijah, Alex, and John Platt of San Antonio, TX., and Hunter Watterbarger of Middletown. He is also survived by several neices and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents Bill and Madonna West, a brother Billie Paul West, a nephew, Donald Lee West and a Mother-in-Law, Nellie Swaby. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 10 at 11 A.M. at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home 8212 S. Walnut in Daleville, with family and friend conductiong the service.. Calling hours will be from 4-8 Monday at the funeral home and burial will be in Saunders Cemetery east of Daleville. Memorial contributions caan be made to the ALS Foundation through MDA.
