Carmel...John Simeon Stewart, 85, Carmel, beloved husband and father, went to be his Lord on Wednesday December 3, 2008.He was born September 7, 1923 in Dunkirk, IN, to the late Roscoe Denzel Stewart and Minnie Louise (Freyling). ""Sim"" was married to the late Mary Suzanna (Holdcraft) on September 4, 1945 in Dunkirk.He was a 1942 graduate of Dunkirk High School and attended Indiana Business College in Marion.He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW 2 and was part of 8 major battles in the South Pacific on board the troop transport ship, USS Feland.He and his brother Forrest started Stewart's Furniture in Fairmount in 1951. They also had stores in Marion and Daleville for many years.""Sim"" was a licensed pilot for 35 years and belonged to several helpful organizations such as the Shriner's and the Lions Clubs. He had lived the past few years at Carmel Care Center near Carmel.He is survived by 1 son: Jim Stewart (Bev) of Indianapolis, 3 daughters: Judy Turner (Tom) of Orlando, FL, Gloria Tincher (Michael) of Marion, and Barbara Myers (John) of Indianapolis, 3 grandchildren: LouAnn Pier (Brad) pf Westfield, Laura Twyford (Chris) and Brian Turner of Orlando, FL, 1 great grandchild: Avery Pier of Westfield, 1 brother: Forrest Stewart (Bette) of Daleville and 1 sister: Delite Smith of Irvine, CA, several nieces and nephews and special friend: Jan Eaton.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years: Mary Suzanna (Holdcraft) and an infant daughter: Becky Sue.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at the Daleville United Methodist Church in Daleville, with Revs. Judy Fuller, Bill Kaiser and Corrine Boruff officiating.Military rites will follow at Saunders Cemetery, east of Daleville.Friends may call on Sunday from 1-4 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville and 1 hour before the services at the church.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
