New Castle...John Victor McShirley, 87, resident of New Castle and a former resident of Sulphur Springs, died Thursday at his home.He was born in Henry County, August 18, 1916, the son of Herbert and Sylvia Ellison McShirley.He was a 1934 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and an Army Veteran of WW 2 serving in the invasions of Casablanca, Solarno and Anzio.He had owned and operated the Sulphur Springs Lumber Company for many years which was founded in 1936.He had been a member of the First United Bank Board of Directors and was a current licensed pilot. He had been a partner in a KFC franchise near I-70 and Wilbur Wright Road for several years.Survivors include 2 sons: James (Victoria) McShirley of Sulphur Springs and JV (Noname) McShirley of Ironwood, MI, 3 grandchildren: Andrew of Anderson, Cheyenne of Pendleton, and Erik McShirley of Ironwood, MI, stepgrandchildren: Gregory Crider and Benjamin Crider, 2 sisters: Joan (James) Davis of Indianapolis and Elizabeth Edmundson of Pendleton. Also a very good friend: Louise Crowe of New Castle, two nephews: DAvid (Marsha) Gratner of Sulphur Springs and John (Cindy) Edmundson of Downer Grove, Ill and one niece: Ellen Leffel of Anderson. He had been preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Veune Gratner and a nephew: Sean Davis.Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at The First Friends Meeting Church in New Castle.Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Middletown.Friends may call at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown on Monday from 5-7 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the AFSC (American Friends Service Committee) 59 E Van Buren, Suite 1400, Chicago, ILL 60605.Online Guestbook is available at:
