John C Fleck

John C. Fleck, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 peacefully in his sleep at home at age of 88. John Fleck was born May 2, 1925 in Indianapolis to Leslie and Ada Marie (Leet) Fleck. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia W. Fleck; daughter, Pamela Fleck; son, John D. Fleck; brothers Leslie E. Fleck, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Robert W. Fleck of Phoenix, AZ, grandsons, Bryan Fleck of Indianapolis, James Fleck of Denver, CO and Spencer Fleck of Oak Harbor, Washington. John Fleck attended Purdue University prior to active military duty and eventually received his architectural education at the University Illinois, and the University of Colorado, after serving his country during WWII as a bomber pilot. 2nd Lt. John Fleck flew B-25 Mitchell Bombers in the United States Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945, primarily as a flight instructor in Enid, Oklahoma.Along with his passion architecture and construction, John continued to fly after WWII, maintaining a commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings until 2004.Most notably John Fleck was a successful architect and construction industry leader in Indiana as well as nationally, having been partners with several A & E firms in Indiana including Fleck, Quebe & Reid, Inc., Fleck, Burkart & Shropshire, and Fleck & Hickey Architects. John Fleck was most proud of his association with the Construction Specification Institute (CSI). As the Charter President of Indiana Chapter of CSI he helped guide the construction industry in developing standardized documentation and specifications practices In 1973 John was named the national President of CSI, and remained a Fellow and Distinguished member until his death.John Fleck maintained an architectural practice for 33 years; served as the State of Indiana as Public Works Director in 1984, and as the Executive Director of Indiana State Office Building Commission in 1984 to 1994, where he provided direction and guidance over the span of two administrations for many projects, including the Government complex, State Capital restoration and two major parking structures. In 1988, John Fleck was named to the Council of Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest personal honor an Indiana Governor can bestow, by Governor Robert Orr in 1988. John Fleck served White Lodging Services as Project Architect and Project Manager from 1995 through 1999. John has been an active member of The Service Club of Indianapolis since 1982, where he held several offices. His greatest contribution and ultimate legacy is the many lives he touched as a leader and mentor. Visitation will be held in the rotunda of the Indiana State Capital Building on Saturday, July 20, 2013 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., 200 W.
