John ""Jay"" Bowers

Anderson...John ""Jay"" Bowers, 96, resident of Bethany Pointe Health Campus, passed away Sunday evening, June 4, 2017.He was born in Ovid, March 20, 1921, the son of Purley and Maggie Ritter Bowers Judd. He was a graduate of Markleville High School and retired after 33 years as a tool maker and foreman for General Motors in Anderson.He had been a member of several Christian communities including and the Daleville Christian Church and Chesterfield Christian Church where he served as an elder in each.He was a US Army Air Corps Veteran serving in WW 2 in the Pacific Theatre.He wrote an autobiography entitled ""Going to Heaven"" which was published in 2006.He was preceded in death by his parents and three wives: Nettie""Betty""Lucille Bowers, Mary Dickey Bowers, and Marguerite Main Bowers.Survivors are his children: Dr. Judith E. Bowers (Susan Paterson) of Bluffton and Rex A. Bowers (Peggy) of Anderson, grandchildren: Mandy and Melinda Bowers, Melinda Kay Neal (Brent) and Mandy Hall (Ryan), great grandchildren: Joshua and Sarah Neal and Weston Hall, step son: Dr. Kenton Main (Mary) of Longmont, Colorado, step grandchildren: Bradley, Kimberly and Ian Paterson, Chad Main (Ryan) and Aaron Main (Amy), two nephews: Greg Ricker and John Steven Ricker and 7 step great grandchildren.A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville with Pastor Ned Clark officiating.Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.Friends may call on Friday at the funeral home from 6-8 PM and one hour before the services on Saturday.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.comThe Ballard family is honored to celebrate the life of ""Jay"" with family and friends.Memorials may be made to: www.alz.org
