Janis Fay (Liebhardt) Carnes, 79, long-time resident of Middletown passed away March 13, 2017 at St. Vincent's Anderson Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Muncie, Indiana on May 4, 1937. She was a member of the Middletown 6th Street Christian Church. She retired as a quality control supervisor from Liebhardt Mills where she worked for 47 years and loved every minute of it.She is survived by her husband: Cordell Carnes of Middletown, sons: Steven Atkinson (Lori) of Middletown, and Jim (Jennyne) Atkinson of Pendleton, brother: James Liebhardt (Karen) of Florida, step children: Shawn (Kreston) Keller of Anderson, Brian (Sue) Carnes of Indianapolis and Andrea Carnes, grandchildren: Lyndsey (Gabe) Wilmes of Yorktown, Darren (Hayleigh) Atkinson and David (Jessi) Atkinson both from Pendleton, great grandchildren: Gavin, Garrett, Harper and Griffin Wilmes of Yorktown, niece: Janyelle (David) Huff and nephew: Doug Liebhardt.She was preceded in death by parents her Merrill and Fay Liebhardt, husband Gene Atkinson and grandson Tyler Atkinson.A Celebration of her life will be held at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home 118 South 5th Street, Middletown at 1:00 pm on March 16th.
