James Robert Solomon

Middletown...James Robert (Bob) Solomon, age 88, a life long resident of Middletown, passed away Monday morning September 6, 2010 at St. John's Hospital followiing an extended illness.He was born on August 8,1922 and was the son of William L. Solomon and Lula (Bickel) Solomon. He was a 1940 graduatate of Middletown High School. Following graduation he enlisted in to the United States Army and participated in the landing at Normandy (Utah Beach) and was involved in the campaigns of Northern France, the Ardennes and Rhineland during World War II. After the was he was a mail carrier for the town of Middletown and owned Solomon Block Company of Middletown, We was a Elder emeritus at the Middletown 6th St. Christian Church and played softball for New Castle Product for several years. He designed three golf courses. Those include Tri County Golf Course in Middletown, Spring Lake Golf Course in Sebring Fla. and Tular Citos Golf Course in San Jose California. He also owned a patent on a golf putter. He is preceeded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.Survivors include his wife of 69 years Sarabelle (Hart) of Middletown. 2 daughters: Robin (Husband Bernard) ""Junior"" Griggs of Middletown, and Beth Solomon of Middletown. 3 Grandchildren; Tamara Langston and Anthony Griggs of Middletown, as well as Bryant Griggs of Indianapolis, Indiana. 6 Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Cassidy, and Trevor Langston; Loren Delk, and Erica and Sasha Griggs. Several Neices and Nephews also survive.Visitation will be Wednesday at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown from 4-8. Funeral services with be Thursday morning at 11 at the Middletown 6th St. Christian Church with the Rev. Maynard Powell officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery east of Middletown.
