Anderson...James W. Philbert II, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 15, 2020 after an extended illness at Willowbend Living Center in Muncie. The family would like to give their heartfelt appreciation to their staff for his care and compassion..
He was born in Anderson Indiana, April 5, 1944, the son of James W. Philbert and Lois (Hartman) Philbert. He attended St. Ambrose School and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School (1963).
After graduation he was drafted into the US Army. He completed basic training at Ft. Knox, KY and advanced training in light infantry and assault school at Ft. Polk, LA. He was placed in General Custer's old outfit, Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Calvary regiment, !st Division in the central highlands of Vietnam. He was decorated many times including; National Defense medal, Combat Infantry Badge, 2 unit Presidential Citations, 2 Vietnam Service awards, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He was employed at Guide Lamp in Anderson until his retirement.
He is survived by two daughters: Karen Rappley of Farmland and Jennifer (Samuel) Stinson of Bonita Springs, FL, one brother Dr. Robert (Cheryl) Philbert, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren .
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday December 20, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut Street Daleville with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Friends may call one hour before the services on Sunday.
Military honors will take place on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 am at Maplewood Cemetery.
