James M. Liebhardt, 78, formerly of Middletown passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, December 15th, in Daytona Beach Shores, Fl.
He was born in Indiana to the late Merrill and Fay (Wilson) Liebhardt. He attended Middletown and Anderson High Schools and Lowell Technological Institute in Massachusetts.
James was the former owner and president of the family-owned business Liebhardt Mills Inc, headquartered in Middletown. He spent his entire work life in the pillow/textile industry where he enjoyed building long lasting business relationships. James contributed to Dietrich Memorial Park in Middletown, and Henry County Community Foundation and many charitable organizations. He enjoyed all forms of auto racing, watching Indiana high school basketball, and was a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and learning the history of places he visited all over the world. He had an enthusiastic sense of humor and brightened many people’s lives.
James is survived by his wife, Karen (Paschal) of 59 years; son, Douglas and daughter, Janyelle (David) Huff; grandchildren, Keane and Danielle Huff; nephews, Steven (Lori) Atkinson, James (Jennyne) Atkinson; special friends, Glayne “Buster” Johnson and Terry Hancock and special pet -- Jessie Bird.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janis (Carnes).

Services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown Food Pantry at 985 Beechwood Avenue, Middletown, IN 47356. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
