James G. Hunt

Muncie...Dr. James G. Hunt, 81, resident of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2010, following a brief illness.He was born November 19, 1928, the son of George C and Virginia DeHart Hunt.He was a graduate of Peru High School in 1947 where he served as class president and was a varsity basketball player for three years. He earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from Ball State University and his PhD from Purdue University.Jim served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was active in the Air Force Reserves from 1953-1961. He achieved the rank of Captain.He retired from Ball State University after 30 years of service as Professor of Educational Psychology and Director of Graduate Certification. During his tenure at Ball State, he spent some time living and working at the New Castle State Hospital where he co-directed the Hospital Improvement Program and worked with neurological impaired patients. Prior to his work at BSU, he served as a history teacher and school counselor at Anderson City Schools from 1953-1958.Jim co-authored five programmed text books for university college students, published by Scott Foresman and Co., and was a published author of several national publications.He was a member of the American Legion, the Heritage Foundation and attended the Yorktown United Methodist Church.He is survived by his wife: Marilyn Pickell-Hunt of Muncie, daughter: Sally E. Adams (Mark A.) of Shirley, sister: June Grove, nephew: Dana Grove, marilyn's children and grandchildren, as well as several extended family members.Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 south 5th, Middletown with Rev. Steve Loft of the Yorktown United Methodist Church and Rev. Marty Ballard of the Yorktown Church of the Nazarene officiating.Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 PM.Memorials may be made to the Yorktown United Methodist Church.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
