James M. Hawkins, 63, Marion, IN, left his earthly body and is now breathing easier in Heaven. He passed away unexpectedly June 7th, 2021. Jim graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1976. Known as "Muffin" to his friends, he was a SHS French horn player, and had the honor and privilege of marching in the Nixon inaugural parade in 1973. In 1975, Jim marched in the King Kamehameha Festival Parade in Honolulu. He was a retiree of Reflectix, Inc., Markleville, IN. Jim was one of the good guys. He was smart, had a great singing voice, & lived simply. He loved hot sauce, the hotter the better, was an avid Ham and CB radio operator, and could be found over the airwaves at all crazy times of the night. He loved feeding and watching birds, except for starlings. He loved digging into genealogy, along with his uncle, Donald Ashley, and kept his family informed of the good, the bad, and the ugly. His memory was amazing when it came to family history. He loved Jesus and his family. He will be greatly missed. Jim was preceded in death by Beverly (Ashley) Hawkins, mother, John Hawkins, father, Donna Lawson, Cindy Gray and David Ashley, cousins. He is survived by his sons, Abraham Hawkins (39) Indianapolis, Wesley Hawkins (20) and Leland Hawkins (18) Union City, OH, and grandson Nathanial Howell (19) Indianapolis. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Gary) Duncan, Florida, Lenida (Dale) Vorwerk, half-sister, California, Channing (Leimomi) Hawkins, Mariner Hawkins, half-brothers, Hawaii, Lindsie (Heath) Frederick, niece, Florida, Erik Duncan, nephew, Oklahoma, Mylee, great-niece, Florida. Jim also leaves behind his best friend and caregiver, Debbie Chick and her daughter, Marie (Shay) Holmes. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 30th, 11 am with visitation from 10-11 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown, IN. Burial to follow at Greenpark Cemetery, Portland, IN. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association or American Cancer Society. Online guestbook is available at www.ballardandsons.com
