Middletown...Jack Sanders, 84, longtime resident of the Middletown/Honey Creek area, passed away Sunday morning at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Middletown.He was born in Muncie, IN, September 4, 1924 and grew up in the town of Honey Creek. He was a fifth generation to reside there.Jack recieved his early education in the Old Honey Creek school and was a 1942 graduate of Middletown High School.He was an alumni of Ball State Teachers College, receiving his BS in 1948 and his MA in 1952.He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Honey Creek and a life member of the National Education Association.He was a charter member of the Fall Creek/Middletown Historical Society and a life member of the Henry County Historical Society.He was inducted into national honoraries: Phi Gamma Mu (Social science), Delta Phi Delta (Art) and Kappa Delta Phi (education).As a teacher at Delphi Community Schools, he was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, a national honorary organization.He was granted Member Emeritus from Purdue University.He was honored as ""Teacher of the Year"" in 1985 by the Delphi American Legion.In 1953 Jack began a a progressive art show with Tri Kappa Sorority to showcase local and national talent. The ""Jack Sanders Art Show"" is still in existence and became a very respected event in his honor, of which he was most proud.He was a generous and gentle man, interested in geneology and reading, and was a devoted advocate of the arts. He travelled extensively in his retirement.He was preceded in death by his mother: Janie Dellinger Sanders, father: Roscoe Sanders, baby brothers: Roscoe, Jr., and Robert T. Sanders, and a very dear and close cousin: Mary Catherine Cheek Sanders.Survivors include his beloved cousins: John W. Redding (Wilma), Nancy Ann Redding McWilliams (Gary), Rosemary Redding Adams (Merle), Dale Redding (Margaret), Charles Robert Cheek, Monte Sanders (Jill), William Sanders (Roberta), Marcel Sanders Jr. (Susan), and Floyd Sanders and each cousin's extended families and a group of very dear friends.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Rev. Cindy Upchurch and Rev. Marty Ballard officiating.Burial will follow in Miller cemetery, Middletown.Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home and one hour before the services on Saturday.Memorials may be made to the Middletown/Fall Creek Historical Society.Online Guestbook at:
