Harriett J. Green

Middletown...Harriett J. (Hopkins) Green, 85, longtime resident of Middletown, passed away Sunday evening at Intergra Specialty Hospital in Muncie, after an extended illness.She was born in Henry County, March 18, 1925 the daughter of Albert and Leona J. Schaeffer Hopkins.She was a 1944 graduate of Spiceland High School.She was a certified cosmetologist but devoted her life to her family.She married George Dale Green on September 27, 1952 at the Knightstown Methodist Church.She was a resident of Middletown for over 50 years and moved here in 1960.She is the mother of four children: Gary D. Green of Middletown, Ronald L. Green (Lisa) of Middletown, Kevin D. Green (Mary Jane) of Munster, and Kimberly A. Casstevens of Middletown, , 7 grandchildren: Susan Dunn (Jeremy) of Indianapolis, Jessica Green of Indianapolis, Elizabeth, Daniel and David Green of Munster, and Jarren and Collin Casstevens of Middletown, several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers as well as her husband: George Dale Green and a grandson: Michael L. Green.She was a dedicated parent and grandparent and a lifelong caregiver to her son Gary. Mrs. Green and many other concerned Middletown area parents were instrumental in bringing classes to local schools for special needs children.She taught children in the youngest class for two years before a licensed teacher of special education could be hired.She shared with her children and grandchildren the simple life lesson, ""You can share with a little as well as a lot.""Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Dr. Philip C.
