George H. Smith

Middletown...George Hockett Smith, 91, resident of Middletown, passed away Sunday morning at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.He was born in Henry County, July 28, 1916, the son of J. Frank and Mabel Mills Smith.He was a 1934 graduate of Markleville High School and retired in 1981 from General Motors Delco Remy after 27 1/2 years as a toolmaker.He worked for over 20 years at Slick Engineering in Middletown and was a 50 year member of the Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #392, the Middletown American Legion, and the UAW #662. He attended the Middletown Church of God.He was student manger in High School for the Markleville basketball team and was a member of the Saturday morning Rooster Club.Survivors include two sons: Larry D. Smith (Susan Slick) of New Palestine and Ted L. Smith (Judy Scott) of Middletown, daughter-in-law: Nancy Parrish Smith-Girt (Paul) of Anderson, 6 grandchildren: Derexa Sanders (Ken) of Atwater, CA, Maellen Walton (Dan) of Owasso, OK, Jacqueline Whittaker (David) of Anderson, Sarah Smith and Benjamin Smith of Indianapolis and Beth Meyer of Middletown, several great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 son: Darrell R. Smith and his wife: Mary.Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Rev. Robert Carter officiating.Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3-8 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown Church of God or the Middletown EMS.Online Guestbook at: www.ballardandsons.com
